How Halloween: The Game Multiplayer Works

One Michael Myers faces four playable Civilians. Civilians persuade NPC residents, arrange police help and prepare escapes; Michael hunts residents and uses stalking and darkness to interrupt them.

Players and residents have different roles

Michael: the Killer

Michael hunts residents, including timed Special Targets that offer greater rewards if killed before their time runs out. His objective is broader than chasing one playable Civilian.

Civilians: the four-player team

Playable Civilians must save NPC neighbours as well as themselves. NPC residents are people to persuade, direct and protect; they are not the other three human-controlled teammates.

How rescue, police and escape connect

SituationAvailable actionWhy it matters
You find an NPC residentWarn and persuade them. Successful conversations allow requests for police calls, hiding or following.Finding a resident is only the start; their cooperation creates options for rescue and police support.
You find a telephone / arrange callsContact the authorities; persuaded residents can also be asked to call.Police help builds resistance in the neighbourhood.
You find a potential escapeSearch for the key items needed to access it and guide persuaded residents toward an available exit.Item and escape positions change between matches, so a memorised location is not a complete plan.
An escape is readyStarting the escape makes noise that alerts Michael to the location.Preparing an exit and activating it are different moments; tell teammates before committing.

The final column is our practical explanation of the developer’s objective relationships, not a guaranteed route or order.

What to look for in searchable containers

Weapons and distractions

Containers can supply weapons and distractions. Treat them as ways to manage a dangerous encounter while working toward rescue or escape; merely collecting them does not complete either objective.

Key items and exits

Key items can unlock or access escape options. Tell teammates which item you found and which exit you are investigating. That is more useful than saying only that you found “loot.”

Michael’s starting weapons have a separate Weapon Level progression track. That track should not be confused with Civilian container loot.

Michael’s information and movement tools

SystemHow the developer describes itCondition or implication
Killer Sense and StalkKiller Sense changes to a first-person perspective and increases awareness of nearby prey. Focusing on targets builds Stalk.Stalk supports tracking and execution options; it is not simply another name for movement.
Shape JumpMove unseen through shadows, with increased movement speed and access to Shape Dash.Entering and exiting requires darkness or being outside a resident’s line of sight. A blocked transition can be a condition issue, not automatically a bug.
Shape DashA forward lunge available as part of the movement suite.Read it alongside Shape Jump rather than as a general promise of unrestricted teleportation.
Lights and BlackoutsMichael can remove lighting by switching lights off, cutting power or causing a temporary Blackout.Changing the lighting affects the conditions around his movement.

Elimination and resistance

The developer says an eliminated Civilian can return as a Sheriff’s Deputy or Dr. Loomis to help the remaining team and responding officers. Michael cannot be killed, but coordinated resistance with the necessary equipment and manpower can detain him and send him back to Smith’s Grove. A knockdown alone should not be confused with completing that outcome.

Return timing and detention steps are not specified in this overview. Follow the current match prompts for those actions.

What changes your match decisions in 1.1.0?

IllFonic’s October 6 Patch 1.1.0 notes changes escape pacing and late-match hiding. Use the current exit and objective prompts rather than planning around a launch-video capacity or item cluster.

  • Finding an exit: discovery distance grows as the match progresses. Bolt cutters, gas cans and escape keys spawn less often, while more fuses spawn; the notes do not provide a guaranteed location.
  • Opening and sharing an exit: Storm Cellar and Gate capacities are reduced, Storm Cellars have more minimum blockers, and clearing overgrowth takes longer. Check capacity before sending a whole group toward one exit; exact new counts and times are not supplied.
  • Hiding near the end: during the final 60 seconds, Residents, Special Targets and playable Civilians in hiding spots become Stalked and visible there. Do not assume a hiding spot keeps you concealed until the timer ends.
  • Finish Off Haddonfield: this objective also marks hiding Residents and Special Targets as Stalked. This separate condition does not say it applies to playable Civilians before the final-60-second rule.

These are developer rules, not a tested fastest route. Pair them with the current map changes and ability distinctions.
