How to Detain Michael in Halloween: The Game

To detain Michael, a player controlling a police officer or Dr. Loomis needs a full detention meter, then must approach Michael while he is down and complete the detention interaction. Calling NPC police and knocking him over are not enough on their own.

Prepare the role before attempting the arrest

The GamesRadar detention guide describes two return routes: a dead Civilian can use the CB-radio opportunity to return as Loomis; dead or escaped players can obtain a Police Reinforcements card through the after-elimination minigames when police presence is available. Escaping is not the Loomis route.

Coordinate before engaging: identify who is actually controlling the officer or Loomis. An NPC officer nearby cannot take the place of the player who starts the interaction. Returning in the right role and being ready to detain are separate steps.

The detention sequence

  1. Fill the meter. Stay close enough to Michael as police or Loomis for the detention meter to build. Wait for its full, flashing state.
  2. Down him when the detaining player is ready. Do not spend the downed window running over from the other side of the encounter.
  3. Start detention. The player-controlled officer or Loomis approaches downed Michael and uses the displayed interaction.
  4. Complete the skill checks. Other players can join the interaction to help finish it. Follow the current on-screen prompts rather than assuming one universal keyboard or controller button.

If the prompt does not appear

Check these in order: player-controlled officer/Loomis → full meter → Michael still down → interaction range. A police arrival notification only addresses the first part of the setup; it does not establish that all four conditions are satisfied.

If Michael gets back up before detention starts, do not assume the same immediate knockdown will work again. Patch 1.0.3 (September 22) gives him temporary stagger immunity and stronger combat and recovery effects after rising. Re-establish the downed state and the detaining player’s position instead of treating a missed window as a missing interaction prompt.

The central sequence is also described by players in this September 8 arrest discussion. This is a guide to triggering detention, not a promise of an automatic match win or a fixed score deduction. Return to the role and objective overview for the broader match loop.
