How to Emote in Halloween: The Game
On PC, hold Z to open the emote wheel, keep it held, aim at an available gesture and left-click to choose it. On controller, hold the action bound to Mark Item. These inputs are reported by GamerBlurb’s September 9 guide.

Use a hold, then choose an entry
GamerBlurb’s emote guide is the source for this control sequence. It is not an official control chart, and this site has not independently tested it in-game.
- Check the current Mark Item binding if you changed your controls. The reported PC default is Z.
- Hold rather than tap. Keep the input held while choosing from the wheel.
- On PC, move the selection to an available entry and left-click. On controller, follow the selection prompt displayed with the wheel.
Wheel missing, empty, or no animation?
First separate the failure you see. IllFonic’s October 6 Patch 1.1.0 notes lists a fix for players being unable to emote after certain interactions. If that is your symptom, check that you have 1.1.0 installed before repeating the same input. The fix does not establish a missing gesture’s unlock requirement. Patch 1.0.3 (September 22) fixed an exploit involving emotes cancelling animations. It does not announce that all emotes were disabled.
- No wheel appears: check your Mark Item binding and hold it through selection. Record whether you are using keyboard/mouse or a controller.
- The wheel opens but has no available gesture: the hold input has worked. Record the empty entries and the character or reinforcement role you are playing; changing how long you hold the button does not establish an unlock.
- A gesture is selected but nothing happens: record the build, role and whether it happens in every match. Players reported non-working emotes on September 24, including a PS5 reply. Those older reports do not establish a universal cause. The later 1.1.0 interaction fix addresses a specific symptom; if it still recurs, include the interaction immediately before the failed gesture.
Include the symptom and input sequence in a support report. Do not treat speculation about a global disable as an official explanation.
Looking for a dance?
Opening the wheel and owning a particular gesture are different questions. This guide explains the wheel; it does not establish a named dance, an unlock level or a redeemable dance code. Select an available gesture rather than assuming a missing entry is unlocked by holding the button longer.
If the wheel never appears, note your platform, input device and current Mark Item binding when asking for help. That separates an input problem from a missing cosmetic. For the rest of your controls and objectives, return to the first-match guide.
